Teens can be challenging. They can also be obnoxious, rude, painfully honest and lacking in tact, disobedient, disrespectful, self-absorbed, untrustworthy, impulsive, lazy and irresponsible. And…they can make life hell for us parents.
Even worse than a challenging teen, however, is an unhappy teen who might be suffering from a low self-esteem and trying unsuccessfully to be accepted, and be acceptable. This teen is likely to indulge in risky behaviour or various forms of self-harm and this is when family life gets very interesting.
I believe that life is harder for teens today than it has ever been. I also believe that they desperately want to grow up, and that parents desperately want them to grow up, but we don’t necessarily have the time or the skills to be able to teach our children how to grow up, which leaves them vulnerable to a darker side of life.
My Response-able Teen Program is all about teaching RESPONSE-ABILITY. Yes, you read that correctly, and no, it is not a spelling mistake. The ABILITY to RESPOND thoughtfully (rather than REACT impulsively) is something that is often missing from a teenagers tool-kit, but there is a recipe for it and it can be taught. My Recipe 4 Response-ability is based on the key Ingredients of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and communication skills and most of the teens I work with are hungry for the opportunity to step up to this level of maturity in their cognitive development. They really want to know how to grow up.
This is a 9 week program which includes 1 introductory session and 2 parent sessions. Don’t wait for things to magically get better on their own. If you feel things are getting out of control now, you need to change something, and you might need to do it fast. Let’s face it, things don’t usually get better on their own. We usually have to do something different to get a different result.
Call or email now to discuss any concerns you might be having and we can determine if this program is for you and your teenager.
Don’t waste any more time. Make an appointment and let’s get to work on turning things around.
